Ginny and Georgia is a show about two best friends who are also mother and daughter. It stayed in the Top 10 shows for a long long time and stars Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry played the title mother-daughter duo.

The story follows their move to a suburb of New England in search of a fresh start and idyllic life, but viewers see Georgia’s less-than picturesque past come to life as she struggles to leave it behind.

Ginny and Georgia were created by Sarah Lampert and produced by The Jim Henson Company for PBS.

Gilmore Girls 

Gilmore Girls is an American television series that aired for seven seasons from October 23, 2000, until May 16, 2007, on The WB Television Network.

It was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and has a star cast of Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Jared Padalecki, and Milo Ventimiglia. 

Like Ginny and Georgia, it is centered on a mother and daughter who have a best friend-type relationship and live together in Stars Hollow, Connecticut.

The stars of the show are Lorelai Gilmore (Graham), her daughter Rory (Bledel), and Rory’s boyfriend Logan Huntzberger (Patterson), and it all takes place in the town of Stars Hollow.

The Fosters 

The Fosters is an American family drama television series developed by Bradley Whitford and Jennifer Lopez based upon a script written by Whitford and directed by Michael Schultz.

The series revolves around the Foster family—a blended California family consisting of biological parents Stef (Lopez) and Lena (Whitford); adoptive parents Callie Torres (Teri Polo) and Jackson (Samuel Larsen); and adopted siblings Jude (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez).

The series premiered on September 26, 2013, on ABC Family. On January 13, 2014, ABC picked up the series for a full-season order. 

Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars is a teen American mystery–drama web television series based on the book series of the same name by Sara Shepard. The first season premiered on April 5, 2010, on Freeform.

The show follows four high school girls: Spencer Hastings, played by Troian Bellisario, Aria Montgomery, played by Lucy Hale, Emily Fields played by Shay Mitchell, and Hanna Marin played by Ashley Benson, whose lives become intertwined after they discover clues pointing toward each other being involved with the murder of Alison DiLaurentis (Meredith Stiehm).

The style of uncovering the past to solve the murder resembles that of Ginny and Georgia.

Teenage Bounty Hunters

If you liked Georgia’s southern charm in Ginny and Georgie, you will find similar characters and similar energy in Teenage Bounty Hunters.

It was produced by Jenji Cohen and stars Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini, who play a pair of twins who end up stumbling into a Bounty Hunting business.

Teenage Bounty Hunters is a  witty show with a similar tone and vibe to Ginny and Georgia. It shares the interest of being coming-of-age sexuality, a female-driven story and the cast is simply wonderful.

The Bold Type

The Bold Type is an American romantic comedy-drama television series that originally aired on The CW from 2017 to 2021.

The series centers on three women working at rival fashion magazines — Sutton Foster’s Miranda Hobbes; Candace Bushnell’s Kat Cole; and Jane Pratt’s Sutton Mercer — as they navigate love, friendship, and career while trying to make it big in New York City.

The powerful women trying to navigate life are similar to the women in the mother-daughter relationship in Ginny and Georgia trying to find their way in their new life.

Riverdale

Riverdale

Riverdale is a teen American dark fantasy drama television series based on the characters from Archie Comics, which debuted on The CW on August 11, 2017.

The series is set in the fictional town of Riverdale, where the wealthy families reside on the east side, and the poor families reside on the west side.

The series features many references to classic horror films such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and Psycho.

The series has received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and the links to the past again resemble Ginny and Georgia’s tone.

Stranger Things

Stranger Things is an American science fiction thriller drama television series created by The Duffer Brothers, loosely inspired by Stephen King’s novel It.

The series is produced by Netflix and is filmed primarily in Atlanta, Georgia, with additional filming taking place in Chicago, Illinois.

The series stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, an up-and-coming star, just like Gentry in Ginny and Georgia, Millie Bobby Brown.

Never Have I Ever

Ginny and Georgia depict high school friend groups as supportive and empowering but also show how complicated hormones at that age make them too.

Never Have I Ever, is a show that is a coming-of-age comedy and matches this perfectly. It was created by Mindy Kaling along with Lang Fisher and is a charming and heartfelt show that everybody loved in the 2020 pandemic.

They have focused on not only teenage romance but more importantly teenage female friendships. They explore the challenges of sexuality in school and other pressures teenagers might face in this society.

13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why is an American psychological thriller drama television series developed for Netflix by Jay Asher, based on his 2007 novel of the same name.

The series revolves around Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette), a teenager struggling with depression after he kills himself due to hearing the tapes of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) recording her reasons for committing suicide. 

The series explores themes including bullying, cyberbullying, peer pressure, mental illness, sexual assault, domestic violence, self-harm, drug abuse, alcoholism, suicide, gun control, and revenge.

The themes of struggling with life and adapting to high school closely resemble what we see with struggles in Ginny and Georgia, although 13 Reasons Why is a lot darker when it comes to tone.

Sex Education

Sex Education is a Netflix show about two best friends who decide to start a sex-ed class for their high school. This show focuses on the difficulties of being young and learning about sex. 

The show shows us how they overcome these obstacles and become closer friends and help people become comfortable with themselves in high school.

Although the primary theme is different from Ginny and Georgia, watching friends struggle to navigate high school again resembles a large part of Ginny and Georgia.
